I used to build my own bookshelf and desk using 18mm MDF. It was fine at first, but after a few months, the shelf began to sag slightly due to the weight of the books. I later realized that simply increasing the PolyTrack thickness to 25mm or choosing a wood core board would make a big difference in the load-bearing capacity.
